Environmental Code

At Galvelmore House we are committed to combining our environmental beliefs with the provision of comfortable B&B accommodation. A symbol of this commitment is our membership of VisitScotland’s Green Tourism Business Scheme, which provides accreditation and support for tourism businesses to reduce the impact of our activities. By encouraging sustainable practices, it ensures that the environment of Scotland can be enjoyed by generations to come.

Through the membership of the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS), we have committed to:

Adhere to good environmental practice in all business activities
Ensure that the business meets the minimum requirements set by environmental law and fulfils its legal Duty of Care requirements for waste disposal
Achieves sustainable environmental improvement
Continuously reducing polluting activities

Wherever possible, within Galvelmore House we:

Use low energy light bulbs

Use recycled paper products

Have ‘A’ and ‘B’ rated kitchen electrical goods

Have gas central heating with individual controls on all radiators

Have small kettles in the bedrooms to avoid unnecessary energy use

Monitoring our consumption of fuel and of our waste

Use fallen timber for the fires

Minimise wastage of water, by offering showers, using Hippos in the toilet cisterns and the use of water butts for the vegetable plot

Recycle paper, cardboard, glass, aluminium (cans and foil) and some plastics

We compost all vegetable matter

Most of the cleaning products and laundry products are environmentally friendly

Reuse of china, textiles and paper in various projects

(picture of mosaic legs) and classes which we run. View classes >>

Reuse of wood and stone in garden projects

Use of and availability for guests of a laundry pulley and drying lines in the garden

Provide information on reaching Crieff by public transport (not that easy!) and on bike-hire etc whilst here.

Encourage wildlife in our garden by maintaining mixed hedges, planting insect loving plants such as buddleia, encourage birds by planting rowan and other berry producing trees and providing bird boxes, and providing bird baths (in mosaic).

Grow and use vegetables and fruit from the garden when in season. Courgettes & gherkins, beans, herbs and salad ingredients are Katy’s hot favourites. These are all done without pesticides and with peat-free compost.
