Drummond Castle Gardens
Drummond Castle Gardens are open daily from May 'til October, 1 - 6pm.
As you enter the gardens through the ancient part of Drummond Castle, you look down on the wonderful formal gardens with Victorian box hedge parterre segmented to resemble the Saltire or St Andrews Cross and Scottish heraldry.
The tranquillity of the gardens makes them a perfect setting to stroll amongst the well-manicured plantings or sit and absorb the atmosphere.
The walled gardens and greenhouses are also open.
Branklyn Garden
This National Trust for Scotland property is a small garden, by NTS standards, but a real oasis in Perth. Famous for its blue Himalayan poppies, this little garden is full of rock gardens, rhododendrons, alpine and peat garden plants many of them rare.
Norrie Miller Riverside Walk and Bellwood Park
Starting off at the top end of the Perth Bridge, the walk follows along the River Tay, with planted beds and an incorporated sculpture trail. The walk ends close to Branklyn Gardens.
Bell's Cherrybank Gardens
Located in Perth, there is 18 acres of gardens, incorporating the Bell's National Heather Collection. There are also sculptures, an aviary and doo'cot, mosaic and putting green.
Scotland's Garden Scheme
There are many local gardens participating in the Scotlands' Garden's Scheme.
A beautiful glen with rhododendrons grown in wild conditions amid oaks and birches is located on the South side of Loch Earn at Ardvorlich. It is open from beginning of May until beginning of June.
Though sometimes a bit muddy, this glen is a little gem.
Local Garden Centres
With such a large garden at the back of Galvelmore House, Katy and David make great use of the local garden centres. Katy is always on the look out for unusual or distinctive plants to fill that new flower bed.
Crieff Visitor Centre has an interesting selection of plants in its Garden Centre at the rear of the building.
Crieff Garden Centre, which is a two minute walk from the house…. It is quite small, but has some good plants in season.
Highland Heather's, Comrie. A traditional heather nursery, with a heather garden, a wide selection of heather's and other plants for sale. The proprietors, Elaine and John Davidson, really know their stuff.
Tullybannocher Plant Centre is just beyond Comrie, located beside the restaurant. Good quality plants and an interesting selection.
Patio Plants, up the hill from the square, offers unusual plants at a good price throughout the summer.
Bennybeg Garden Centre offers an interesting selection, with some very distinct plants. The owners are very knowledgeable about horticulture.
