Mosaics have fascinated people for centuries. Complicated and intricate designs created from tiny pieces capture the eye and give pleasure on two levels – looking at the piece as a whole and looking at the individual pieces that make up the whole. The techniques taught by Jan Kilpatrick, the tutor, use a variety of materials – from tiles to crockery, from earrings to stones, whatever inspires you – to achieve your desired mosaic. When you begin to design your own mosaic, the pleasure of creating something out of something else, often something that has become redundant, is an intriguing process and quickly becomes addictive. In addition, a much loved piece of crockery or jewellery, once broken, can have a future life in a mosaic. Katy has made a table that included the clients wedding china, their dads ashtray, their mums blue and white china, and a special pebble.

Using a variety of cutting techniques and a vast array of materials, this course is an opportunity for you to produce a unique piece of ceramic art, working beyond traditional square mosaic tiles. You will be able to interpret your ideas in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. This weekend is suitable for beginners, improvers and adventurers!

Meet up on the Friday evening over a glass of wine, to peruse the inspirational books, talk through ideas and meet the other 'mosaicers'.

2010 prices:
£170 per person, sharing a twin-bedded or double room
£190 per person, single occupancy

2011 prices:
£195 per person, sharing a twin-bedded or double room
£215 per person, single occupancy

Prices include B&B accommodation on Friday night and Saturday night, a welcoming glass of wine on the Friday evening at Galvelmore House, light lunch on Saturday and Sunday, tuition by Jan Kilpatrick of Wild Tiles and all materials.
